Three people died and 17 others injured in two separate gruesome road accidents in Mubende and Sembabule districts. The accidents occurred on Christmas Eve at Kalongo trading center and Kyogya swamp in Mubende and Ssembabule districts respectively.
The identities of the Mubende accident victims have not yet been established. The Sembabule accident victims are Joseph Sseruwu, a prominent hard ware dealer and his wife Nababi Sseruwu.
Joseph Sseruwu died after the pickup vehicle number UAF 423T in which, he was traveling with his wife veered off the road and overturned in Kyogya swamp that borders Ssembabule and Bukomansimbi district. Ogwal says Nabibi was rushed to Villa Maria hospital in Kalungu district where she is hospitalized. He suspects that the accident could have been a result of speeding.
Ajuna Labana, the officer in Charge of Kitenga police post also blames the Mubende road accident involving a passenger minibus on speeding. He says the taxi registration number UAS 372 Q lost control and overturned at Kalonga trading center, about twenty kilometers to Mubende town killing two minors and sixteen other travelers. He says the parents of the deceased were also injured and are admitted at Mubende regional referral hospital.
According to Ajuna, majority of the accident victims were heading home for Christmas. A medical officer who spoke to our reporters at Mubende says eight accident victims are in very bad shape. He says they are considering transferring them to Mulago national referral hospital for the better management of their case. He is optimistic that by this afternoon, the remaining accident victims would have improved.
