Kenya then went into total domination mode with Anthony Akumu and Clfiton Miheso trying their luck with long range shots.
Tanzania were the best side in the last quarter of the first period with Erasto Nyoni forcing keeper Duncan Ochieng in the 45th minute.
In the last move of first half The evergreen Francis Kahata got a chance to shoot from distance,a nice effort that Mapunda could not hold on to but the Gor Mahia keeper managed to recover and deny Allan Wanga who was moving fast to capitalize on the rebound.
Immediately after the break, Kenya’s Peter Opiyo lost possession then Thomas Ulimwengu sent a thunderbolt that beat keeper Duncan Ochieng but the crossbar came to Harambee Star’s rescue.
The next effort for the Tanzanians was via Mrisho Ngasa who executed a free kick well but it was slightly above target.
Kahata was fouled in the 66th minute to earn Kenya a free kick that Edwin Lavatsa curved well but Mapunda managed to punch it out for two successive corners.
In the 84th minute, Coach Adel Amrouche brought in Noah Wafula for Captain Allan Wanga.
Taifa Stars had a good chance to equalize but he fluffed his chance with only keeper Duncan Ochieng to beat in the 90th minute.
