Filipino Pastor Held Over Fraud
Kabale police are holding Lourdes S. Ascano, a female pastor of Philippines origin over allegations of receiving money by false pretence.
Ascano was picked up by Rwanda Police Force on November 30 after she fled from her victims in Uganda. He was handed over to Uganda Police on December 03.
Ascano is wanted for allegedly conning five Christians of Lift up Jesus Church in Kabale municipality US $ 8280 about 20 million shillings to facilitate their travel for a pastoral course in Israel in vain.
Her victims include Margret Kiiza, the wife of Bishop Aloysius Kiiza, the founder of Lift up Jesus Church. It all started after Ascano left with her victims to Nairobi enroute to Israel.
However, on reaching Nairobi, the victims discovered that no arrangements had been made for their travel and immediately reported the matter to Kenya Police.
Kenya police picked up Ascano and her victims and sent them back to Uganda to resolve their dispute. On their arrival in Kabale, Ascano signed an agreement promising to pay back his victims.
However, on 29th November Ascano fled from the church during prayers and crossed into Rwanda through Katuna border where she was arrested on a tip off from Uganda police.
Pastor Lourdes S. Ascano arrived into Uganda in 2012 to do missionary, which has seen her travel to churches in Fort portal, Kampala, Kabale and Rwanda.
