7 Dead In Mukono Car Accident

7 revelers were killed and 7 others injured critically in the wee hours of this morning in an accident involving a minibus taxi and trailer along the Kampala-Jinja highway.

The accident occurred at 2:00am at a sharp bend in Kigunga between Mukono and Seeta after the minibus number UAJ 215 M, in which the revelers were traveling, collided with a trailer number KBA 325T.

The revelers, who are believed to have been drunk, were returning to Mukono from Boxing Day festivities at Busabala beach in Wakiso district. Patrick Mugisha, the Officer in charge of Traffic Investigations Accidents Uganda Police identifies some of the deceased as Swabur Sebiteri, Ibrahim Mulyowa and Nick Mwijukye.

The injured, who were rushed to Mulago hospital in critical condition, are Bosco Ssesanga, Patrick Seruwagi, Ali, Paddy Mugerwa and Kobby Kamanya.

Three other accidents victims including three males and one female have not yet been identified.  Police attributes the accident on speeding on the part of both the taxi and trailer drivers.

Mugisha says they are hunting for the trailer driver who fled into hiding after the accident.
