Tusker, a very popular beer in Uganda and the Great Lakes region has consolidated its position as one of Africa’s top ten most admired global brands. The flagship brand of East African Breweries Limited (EABL), has been named the seventh in Africa, according to a survey done by two international research firms.
The survey, which began three years ago, was dominated by South African businesses with MTN, Woolworths and Shoprite being listed as the top three African brands, in that order.
TMS, a market research firm and Brand Finance Plc, a brand valuation consultancy surveyed people in countries such as Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Ghana among others.
Pick n’ Pay, the second largest supermarket chain store in South Africa was ranked fourth, Globacom, a Nigerian telecommunications firm was fifth.
Billionaire Dangote’s business and Guaranty Trust Bank, both of Nigeria, took the eighth and ninth position while Tiger Brands of South Africa completed the top-ten list.
“Amongst the beverage brands in this year’s table, there is only one real winner – Tusker the beer from Kenya, which has gained in brand value by 561 per cent and become one of Africa’s leading brands,” the 2013 Most-Admired and Valued Brands report reads.
