Opposition legislators have asked various opposition KCCA councilors to shun the proposed impeachment of Erias Lukwago, the city lord mayor.
The appeal follows reports that some KCCA councilors are preparing to impeach Lukwago.
The decision follows the release of the KCCA tribunal, in which Lukwago was found guilty of incompetence, misconduct and abuse of office.
Mathias Nsubuga, the secretary General Democratic Party has asked the five DP councilors at KCCA not to support the impeachment of Lukwago saying their party is against the process.
He says any DP councilor who will support the impeachment of Lukwago will face disciplinary action from the party. According to Nsubuga, the DP is grounded in the rule of law and cannot endorse the unlawful impeachment of the lord mayor.
Wafula Oguttu, the Spokesperson Forum for Democratic Change also appealed to the two FDC councilors in KCCA not to support the removal of Lukwago saying FDC does not agree with the process. He says President Museveni is trying to use KCCA as a window to take over Kampala.
Oguttu says the FDC councilors are obliged to support Lukwago adding that, whoever deviates from the party position does it at their own peril.
In May this year, 17 councilors led by Bruhan Byarunga petitioned Frank Tumwebaze, the minister for Kampala seeking the removal of Lukwago saying he is unfit for the office of the lord mayor. Two of the five DP councilors are said to be in favor of the impeachment of Lukwago.
