The Kenya based striker second top-scored in the Kenyan Premier League and was named the player of the year in 2012.
He has not played a starring role in the Cranes set-up, however, in recent years but has now got his chance.
Sources in the Cranes camp in Machokos say that Micho will give him a lead role in attack and hopes that he is able to replicate his form at the tournament.
“Danny is an important player in the team as he has shown in the current season,” the source intimated.
“He does not just play an important role as a goalscorer, but also as a leader in the team.
“We will rely on him to help the team in the tournament. His role will be as one of the leaders. I hope that he can perform well because if he does, we will go far as a team.”
SC Villa forward Emma Okwi and Sserunkuma will be looked upon to provide goals for the Cranes and the coach feels they can make a strong partnership.
“It will be important that they play well as a combination because we need them to be on top of their game,” he added.
Besides Sserunkuma, two foreign-based players, Yanga’s Hamis Kiiza, Tusker midfielder Khalid Aucho and unattached Godfrey ‘Baba’ Kizito have been included although the local federation and Micho had earlier stated that they would include only local based players as Cecafa will be used as a tune-up tournament for Chan due January.
Uganda, the 13-time defending champions, will open their campaign on Friday in Machakos against regional rivals Rwanda, who they drew with goalless in a friendly last week in Kampala. The Cranes were expected to leave for Kenya on Sunday.
