Embattled Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was this morning rearrested as he drove to CID offices.
He was intercepted as he drove to CID offices, put in a police patrol vehicle before being being driven to Kibuli.
On Monday, Lukwago was arrested at his home in Kabusu, a Kampala suburb and detained at Naggalama Police Station in Mukono District. He was however released a few hours towards midnight.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Andrew Felix Kaweesi says Lukwago has been arrested for stressing that he would go ahead with a rally organized by mainly opposition MPs in the wake of the released KCCA tribunal report that found Lukwago guilty of abuse of office.
On Friday, Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality MP announced plans by opposition politicians to stage a rally at Nakivubo blue settlement primary school to explain the KCCA tribunal report to city dwellers. The report issued by the KCCA tribunal chaired by Justice Catherine Bamugemeirere implicates Lukwago for alleged incompetence, failure to sign council minutes and abuse of office.
