City Oilers, Falcons Battle For Title

City Oilers’ series triumph over DMark Power excitement is certainly over and today return to business battling record national basketball league Falcons in Game One of the finals of this year’s Castle Lite playoffs at MTN Arena Lugogo.

batleNeither of giants Riham Warriors and DMark appear in the finals of this year, the first time that has happened since 2005. This could be the beginning of the end of an era, accelerated by Falcons and City Oilers.

The manner in which the two finalists did it was all the more impressive, winning three in a row after losing the opener in their respective best-of-five semifinals thereby clinching the series 3-1.

Surprise newcomers Oilers will bank on power forward Ramadhan Arou whose 17 points and 10 rebounds against DMark Power ushered in their inaugural final with big man Kami Kabangu and guard Jimmy Enabu all also set to star tonight.

Oilers are genuine title contenders!

Falcons too want this badly having taken a tough path in beating second seed UCU Canons in the quarters and dethroning Warriors later on.

In the final series game against defending champions Warriors, Stephen Omony led all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds, Abdullahi Ramadhan added 18 and five assists and Serge Kabangu had 15 and eight boards for Gad Etue’s Falcons side and will prove instrumental against the fast and talented Oilers team.

Meanwhile UCU Lady Canons dare KCCA Leopards in the national basketball league women seven-game playoffs finals also starting Friday. On three occasions this season, UCU beat KCCA, a team who guarantee that purple perch every season thanks to unpaid allowances from management.

Last year, UCU led 2-0 only to lose 4-3. UCU coach Boniface Okello, unbeaten this year, and his opposite Ronnie Owino will have to get these matchups right to snatch what promises to be a close series.

2011 MVP Purity Odhiambo will tonight definitely be the standout player she has been all-season having missed the 2012 finals won by Leopards.
