KCCA and Uganda defensive midfieder Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has been excused by the Lugogo club to attend trials at atop divison side in Doha, Qatar REDPepper Online understands.
The dreadlocked star who skippered the Cranes to their 13th CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup last year and also guided the team to qualification for the 2014 Africa Nations Championship, joined KCCA FC late last season after returning from Turkey.
And his perspective move to Qatar comes months after he was speculated to join South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side Free State Stars this season, but he decided to stay in the local league awaiting better offers.
“As a club, we gave him a go to attend the trials and he left on Monday. We pray that he performs well during the trials because we shall also benefit as a club if he transfers,” David Tamale, the KCCA FC secretary told this paper.
Wasswa, capped over 30 times for Uganda, played for KCCA FC in 2006 before moving to Ethiopia’s St. George’s in 2007. He moved to FC Cape Town in South Africa in 2008 before heading to Turkey in 2009.
