Uganda Cranes head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has said they will host Rwanda on November 15 before heading to Kenya to defend the regional CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup trophy.
Early this month the Ugandan FA cancelled the earlier friendly against Rwanda because of logistical problems. Micho said that he has already embarked on training every weekend with the team before starting a daily routine on November 10th.
The coach, who has already helped Uganda qualify for the 2014 Africa Nations Championship, said although they will use the home-based players for the CECAFA event, they are taking the tournament very seriously.
“I have told my players what I expect of them and our target will be to defend the title,” added the Serb.
He admitted that defending the title will not be an easy task because the team has in the past lifted the trophy with some professional players in the squad.
“It is obvious hosts Kenya, Ethiopia and guest sides Zambia and Malawi will be very strong sides at the tournament,” said Micho.
The tournament, which is yet to get a sponsor since the contract with Tusker expired last year, will take place November 27 to December 12.
But CECAFA Secertary General Nicholas Musonye has promised that a sponsor will be announced in the next few days.
“We shall are busy talking to a number of companies and eventually we shall communicate the development soon,” added Musonye, who has played a pivotal role in bringing sponsors on board to support CECAFA events.
