Two Democratic Party (DP) leaders in Bukomansimbi district are accusing each other of sabotage over the distribution of Maize and Coffee seedlings.
The Bukomansimbi County MP Deogratius Kiyingi accuses the district Woman MP Susan Namaganda of “stealing” Maize seedlings he was meant to distribute.
Kiyingi says that Namaganda signed for the seedlings he was meant to distribute from National Agriculture Advisory Services (NAADS) Masaka office.
Kiyingi says he was meant to receive 1000 kilograms of Maize seedlings to distribute. He was also meant to receive Coffee seedlings.
However, Kiyingi says he was informed by officials at the NAADS office that MP Namaganda had already signed and taken the seedlings.
But MP Namaganda denies that she “stole” the seedlings meant for her fellow MP.
Namaganda says she received the Maize seeds from the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry through food security scheme after requesting for them early this year.
She explains that she received the Coffee plants from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) to boost its grow more coffee campaign in Bukomansimbi.
Namaganda says she was informed this month by MP Mathias Kasamba of Kakuuto who is the Agricultural Committee Chairperson that the seeds for her district had arrived.
She sent her friend Jacinta Bwanika to the Masaka district NAADS offices to sign for the seeds on her behalf because she was away in Kampala.
Namaganda says she personally received the Coffee plants from UCDA officials and saw nothing wrong in that.
Kiyingi wants Namaganda to hand over his share of the seeds because his supporters have missed out during the distribution.
But Steven Kizza, a farmer who has benefitted from the distribution, says Kiyingi should concentrate on finding them even more seeds to plant instead of fighting over these ones.
Although they belong to the same party, the two MPs have been bitter rivals since they came to Parliament.
Recently, a section of DP Leaders led by Musa Kigongo announced they want Former Buganda Minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi to challenge for MP Namaganda’s seat. Nakiwala is MP Kiyingi’s wife.
