The line-up for both tables of the FUFA Big League 2013-2014 is slowly but surely taking shape. In Elgon group’s Thursday matches, all the home sides recorded deserving victories.
Debutants Jinja Municipal Council made certain the top spot in the group was in clear reach with a 6-1 victory over Kumi University. Kigezi Good Samaritan who never showed up for their first home game in Kabale beat Sadolin Bugembe and now hope to maintain the good luck in the forthcoming league fixtures.
Elsewhere, Kirinya Jinja’s dream of having a good first round also became doubly valuable as a result of fellow Easterners Bugembe’s defeat, as the side will now definitely make the most of their season backing on Thursday’s slim 1-0 win over Hope Doves.
The Saints poor run of form in the Rwenzori group continued at Ndejje where they were held to a 1-1 draw by the campusers.
Saints had gone into the game hoping to put their challenge back on track after a frustrating 0-1 loss to Baza Holdings at home but the day ended in further disappointment. The Saints took the lead from a Farook Kawooya penalty, won by Morris Karumonez but just when Hussein Mbalangu’s boys thought they had the three points in the bag, Ivan Okot handled in the areas, got red carded and Ndejje equalized from the resultant penalty.
The Saints are currently mid-table after collecting just five points from four games, meaning they have lost more points (7) than they have won.
West Nile team Mvara Boys face a nail-biting wait to see whether they will end up redeeming their potential after falling 2-0 away to last season play-off candidates Wandegeya FC at Kitezi playground.
