Ministry of health has directed the officials in soroti district to recall thousands of insecticide treated mosquito nets for recycling. All the nets that have been used for more than three years are to be recycled.
Residents have also responded to requests and are returning the nets in large numbers.
Ben Etonu, the Soroti Resident District Commissioner said that the response is overwhelming and that old mosquito nets pose a danger to the environment if not disposed of properly.
Martins Eyura, the Assistant Medical Officer Soroti district says ministry of health intends to recycle the used mosquito nets from Soroti and Busia district to test the newly built recycling plant in Iganga district.
Helen Aguti, a mother of three says they have no problem handing over used mosquito nets as long as government provides them with free treated mosquito nets.
