The High Court in Kampala has today summoned the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Prof John Ddumba Ssentamu over in-fighting at Makerere University.
The summons issued by Judge Elizabeth Musoke, require the Professor of Economics to appear before her court on Friday next week at 11am.
Prof Ddumba is expected to explain the in-fighting between him and one of the senior Economics lecturers at the university, Dr Joseph Wasswa Matovu.
The issuing of summons to Prof Ddumba by court; arose out of a fact that there are numerous law suits (over 15 in number) between Prof Ddumba and Dr Wasswa, which fights the judge said is tarnishing the university’s good name and its advancement.
Judge Musoke urges the two senior academicians to resolve the matters between them because they are both interested in the advancement of Makerere University.
The October 11 summons is to enable the two find a way of resolving the feud.
Prof Ddumba and Makerere University, one of the respondents, was represented in court by Dennis Wamala and Dr Wasswa was being represented by Dr James Akampumuza.
Dr Wasswa who was present in court to closely follow-up one of his cases against Prof Ddumba, told the judge that Prof Ddumba has not been open to negotiations and that he seeking for damages of Shs500million from him for having discriminated against him and even denied him a four-year salary.
The feud between Prof Ddumba and Dr Wasswa dates far back to when the former was the Principal of the College of Business and Management Science with the latter being his subordinate.
