South African PSL side Kaizer Chiefs’ coach Stuart Baxter has praised the performance of Ivan Bukenya in the Macufe Cup on Sunday.
The club handed a first run out to the Ugandan international in the 1-0 friendly loss to Bloemfontein Celtic and Baxter was pleased with what he saw.
“Ivan did better than I thought he would do,” Baxter told the club’s website. “I didn’t think he would understand our play so fast.
“In general he did well, he was composed, his heading was good and his positioning was superb. I would like to see him playing with a bit more tempo. He asked me after the game and I told him that.”
Chiefs are still waiting for a work permit for the defender-cum-midfielder before they will be able play him in competitive matches.
It is likely that he will compete for the centre-back positions with Erick Mathoho, Morgan Gould and Tefu Mashamaite, but he can also play in a defensive midfield role.
