The city will on Sunday October 6, be transformed as KCCA hosts the 2nd Kampala City Festival scheduled to among other attractions have a zoo complete with caged wild animals, a Bollywood movie star to entertain the public, a line-up of 30 artistes and musicians performing and a grand parade comprising of world class floats, dancers and mascots in spectacular and sumptuous costumes and a thrilling display of fireworks.
The entire Kampala road from Watoto Church to Kitgum House shall be closed on Saturday at 6:00pm for the celebrations with over 100,000 people expected to turn up for the Festival which is free for all and is themed Our City, Our Celebration.
KCCA can also confirm that the train shall on Sunday morning ferry the public from Namamve to Kampala city for the Festival and take them back to Namamve at the end in a bid to give more city dwellers the chance to join in the celebrations
The Festival this year has attracted the participation of over thirty corporate sponsors from the private and public sector and sixty vendors that shall light up the city in the grand parade and participants from the region and internationally have also confirmed attendance.
Kampala City Festival 2013 promises to be a fine and amazing mix of arts, entertainment, fashion, culture, nature, business as Kampala City dwellers celebrate the many things that set the city on 7 hills apart from other cities.
Speaking yesterday at the Festival stakeholders meeting, KCCA Executive Director Jennifer Musisi said that the Festival planning this year has been meticulous with all stakeholders including the Uganda Police involved and the public should expect a fantastic and safe Festival.
“We shall have a dedicated Kid’s zone where the Watoto Church children’s choir shall be entertaining our children so we shouldn’t leave them behind. The Government and its agencies will also take part, parliamentarians, URA, The Police Band, UPDF Band and the Prisons Band have already confirmed attendance,” added Musisi.
After the daytime parades and activities, the Kampala Festival shall culminate in a massive concert to be headlined by thirty artistes and musicians.
Leading the pack will be Bobi Wine and the Fire Base Crew to the likes of The Goodlyfe Crew of Radio and Weasel, Ragga Dee, Jackie Chandiru, Lilian Mbabazi, Coco Finger, Khalifa, Mesach Semakula, Pastor Bugembe, Watoto Church Music Team, Jamal, Eddy Kenzo, Exodus, Hilderman, Aziz Azion and Omulangira Ssuna among others.
At midnight, the Festival will come to a close with all activities shutting down to cap what is now set to become an annual phenomenon in Kampala.
“The Festival celebrations shall end at midnight so that KCCA together with the police can get back the streets in order in preparation for the next day which is a working day. I urge all Kampala city dwellers to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies during the Festival so we can all have an incident free event” said Musisi.
With this year’s Festival, KCCA is promising to up the ante for Kampala dwellers and the visitors that shall attend by delivering an experience that will be unique and memorable.
