Kasagga To Captain Uganda in Egypt Friendly

Defender Richard Kasagga of Kiira Young FC will skipper the Cranes against Egypt.

Defender Richard Kasagga will lead Uganda against Egypt in Monday’s friendly at the 30,000-capacity military Airforce stadium in Cairo.

The Kiira Young centre-back has been handed the armband in the absence of captain Andy Mwesigwa and other senior players.

Hassan Wasswa, Denis Guma and Hamza Muwonge who are ahead in the hierarchy were dropped from the squad that is set to play the Pharaohs tonight and Iraq two days later.

This will be the first time Kasagga will be leading the Cranes since turning a senior international.

Uganda are using the friendly to prepare for the Nairobi Cecafa championship due in December, the 2014 Africa Nations Championship and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

SC Victoria University goalie Benjamin Ochan who makes a return to Cranes for the first time since 2010 is expected to start between the posts with Nicholas Wadada and Simon Namwanja featuring at right and left back respectively while Savio Kabugo and stand in captain Richard Kasagga at the heart of defence.

Manko Kaweesa is expected to start in the holding midfield role while Saidi Kyeyune, Joseph Mpande, Brian Majwega and Moses Feni Ali are also available for selection while Frank Kalanda is expected to lead the line.
