Uganda’s most prominent golfer, Deo Akope has finalized plans to take part in the forthcoming Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Golf Tour.
The seasoned golfer departs for Dubai today and will compete in four tournaments with each having a total prize purse of $50,000 (sh130m) before embarking on an European Tour quest.
Akope chose to miss the Sunshine Tour events in South Africa and Zambia this year and get enough funds to run him through one month he will be on the tour in UAE that totals to $12,000 (sh32m) of entry fees, accommodation, caddie fees, internal travel and upkeep among others.
He will start his campaign with the American Express Dirab Championship which tees off this Sunday and ends on October 2. He will take a three-day break and head to Al Badia Golf Club for the Maktoum Dubai Open slated for October 6-9.
He will then tackle the Ras Al Khaumah Classic due October 13-16 and wind up with the Abu Dhabi Citizen Open at Saadiyat Club on October 20-23.
