The clinics have been closed on grounds of operating illegally while others had issues to do with sanitation and operating illegal laboratories.

According to Swaibu Kyeyune, the Deputy National inspector for the National council of traditional healers and herbalists association, the crackdown was initiated after complaints that quack traditional healers in Kabale district have been taking advantage of the unsuspecting members of the public to steal from them.

The traditional healers whose clinics have been closed include Humura Herbal clinic, Muhereza Herbal clinic, Green world International, Komeni Kasim herbal clinic, Tayebwa Herbal clinic and Zangazamba Alex of Kabura trading centre in Kyanamira Sub County among others.

Charity Mugisha, the Kabale district chairperson for the National Council of Traditional healers association, said that the quack doctors have been operating clinics and mobile laboratories yet they had no trained health workers.

He further said that the equipments which the quack doctors have been using have also been confiscated and handed over to police.

Mugisha revealed that the owners of the clinics have been misleading people using local radio stations and had very poor sanitation in addition to carrying out laboratory tests yet they are not qualified.

In the same crack down on Thursday, two health workers were found in possession of forged documents indicating that they are laboratory technicians. These are Vincent Munjuni and Ambrose Muhereza who had forged identification cards from Chemequip Laboratory Training school.

George Rwakareeka, one of those whose businesses were closed told Red Pepper Online that he was told his business had poor sanitation. His household property was also confiscated.

Kabale resident District Commissioner Mathew Moses Elayo said that he has already instructed the National Council of traditional healers and herbalists association to close all the businesses that are operating without proper documentation. Elayo further reveals that a group of quack doctors have stormed the district and are taking advantage of the people’s desperate situations to exploit them.

Elayo further reveals that his office has also communicated to all media houses in the area to stop giving platform to the quack traditional healers saying this has been misleading the public.
