It was a horrific moment in Kiruhura district as six family members were brutally hacked to death by unknown goons.
This nasty incident happened on Saturday August 17 in Rushere parish, Kenshunga Sub County Kiruhura District.
The assailants raided the home of Daniel Karuhanga a resident of kacumbiro cell and hacked him to death.
The other five family members were also brutally murdered.
Two of the murdered victims are Naboth Turinabo, a driver to the deceased and Kenneth Tumuzugu, a relative who had visited the deceased.
The yet to be identified assailants fled the crime scene with the car and the card of the deceased. The car is a Toyota Spacio registration number UAR /517 H.
According to reliable sources, Daniel Karuhanga has been entangled in domestic wrangles over property sharing for years with his alienated wife.
Polly Namaye, the Rwizi regional police spokesperson confirmed to us that when a sniffer dog was brought to the scene of crime, it led them to Jovia Karuhahanga’s home a former husband of the deceased. She is now a prime suspect in this murder case.
Jovia Karuhahanga, who was married to the deceased, has reportedly been involved in a dispute over property since they broke up in 2011.
Namaye said that they have also recovered spears, knives and pangas, which are believed to have been used in the murder. She identifies the suspects as Enid Akankunda, Nathan Niwasasira, Grace Niwamanya, Alice Ayebare, Monica Akankunda, John Musiime, Jolly Akandwanaho, Peninah Mbabazi and Brenda Akankunda, most of who are children to the late Mzee Karuhanga.
The suspects are currently detained at Mbarara central police station as investigations into the murder are ongoing.
