Cranes coach Micho Sredojevic has recalled midfielders Vincent Kayiizi and Joseph Kabagambe for the August 14 friendly away to Egypt.
The duo, who last played for the Cranes over a year ago and have only managed to sign for team’s outside Uganda early this year, must however work hard to convince Micho that they can be part of the squad that will face Senegal in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier on September 7.
Kayiizi who features for Polish second Division side Motor Lublin has been very active in the league while Kabagambe who guided El Merreikh El Fasher to third place in the recent regional Cecafa Kagame Club championships is reportedly in good form.
“We shall only train on Saturday before departing for Egypt on Sunday. But some of the players will connect from their clubs to Egypt,” revealed Micho who said he will take about 25 players for the build-up.
Micho has also included some of the youthful players who helped Uganda qualify for the 2014 African Nations Championship like Richard Kasagga, Hamza Muwonge, Brian Majwega and Frank Kalanda.
And Cranes skipper Andy Mwesigwa who missed the friendly game against Libya two months ago is expected to make the trip to Egypt.
But the surprise inclusion is 20-year-old Ugandan-born Ibra Sekajja who has been on the newly promoted Premier League Crystal Palace’s books since 2007 and signed professional terms with the club in 2011 and enjoyed a memorable debut when he scored moments after coming off the bench.
Sekajja is currently involved in Crystal Palace’s pre-season preparations and scored a late goal in the Eagle’s 4-0 win over Waterford United on Saturday.
The youngster is eligible to play for England and has represented the Three Lions at Under 16 level.
The match will be played in the coastal town of El Gouna, 430km from Cairo, because of security tensions in the capital Cairo.
