Arthur Blick Jnr (Subaru N10) – 203 Africa and National rally championship leader Jas Mangat who led day one of the 2013 Shell VPower Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally winning the 3.76km shake up Super Special Sprint in Lubiri on Friday.

“Jas (Mangat) is the biggest opponent in Saturday’s sections but I will push myself to the limit as well,” Ponsiano Lwakataka told Red Pepper Online on Friday evening in Lubiri.

Mangat led the way clocking an incredible four minutes and five seconds  in the two runs closely followed by Kenyan Carl Tundo in a Mitsubishi Evo 9 a first-timer in the Pearl of Africa rally  recording four minutes and fifty seven seconds while 2012 Pearl of Africa rally champion Essa Mohammad who is eight points behind Mangat.

The Pearl of Africa Rally has become famed for its toughness, competitiveness and unending early exits with Wycliff Bukenya quitting due to mechanical problems but focus turns to the 225.83km CS (Competitive Section) in Zirobwe on Saturday.

Mangat leads the way in Luweero followed by Essa Mohammad (Evo 9), Ronald Ssebuguzi (Evo 9), Jassy Singh (Zambia, Subaru N10), Carl Tundo (Kenya, EVOIX), Arthur Blick Jnr (Subaru), Giancarlo Davite (Rwanda, EVOX), Christakis Fitidis (Subaru N12), Ponsiano Lwakataka (Subaru N8) and Frank Tundo (EVOIX)

The most competitive sections for day two (Saturday) include: CS2- Busukuma –Ndeeba (25.70km) CS 3 Ndeeba-Zirobwe (16.15km) and CS4-Wabutungulu – Busiika

The event, which is the 6th round of ARC, has a total of 425.99km. Of those, 225.83km are competitive spread over eight sections. The first car is expected back at Silver Springs Hotel at around 6pm. The prize giving ceremony will be held later in the evening at the same venue.

Shell are official sponsors with a funding of Shs100m. Silver Springs Hotel have provided accommodation for drivers and officials worth Shs75m, Fire and Safety Appliances Ltd and Coca-Cola are co-sponsors.
