The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) 2013 marathon champion, Uganda’s Stephen Kiprotich is in town. The gold medalist touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 1:07pm.
Kiprotich won the medal on Saturday in 2 hours 09 minutes and 1 second.
It was Kiptrotich’s second gold in less than two years following his record breaking win in the 2012 London Olympics men’s marathon where he bagged a gold medal, the country’s first in four decades.
“It is another moment to remember,” Kiprotich declared after the race. The long distance runner proved to the world that he didn’t fluke the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympic Marathon.
Besides winning a gold medal, Kiprotich also pocketed a cool Shs150m as prize money.
In addition, Kiprotich Prize, a campaign by Ugandans to reward the sports icon for his now distinguished performance on the track has since generated a whooping Shs100m in one day.
President Yoweri Museveni is set to host the gold medalist to a lunch at 4pm today, according to Uganda Media Centre boss Ofwono Opondo.
Meanwhile, elders from Cheptilyal village,Tegeres sub county Tingey county Kapchorwa district have today resolved to front Steven Kiprotich as MP for Tingey county as a sign of appreciation.
What waits to be seen is how the soft spoken champion who has until not hinted on any future political moves will respond to the move by his elders.
