Day One of the national cricket schools week got underway on Sunday at Lugogo but record champions Busoga College Mwiri were shocked by minnows Busoga High falling in their opening game.
Busoga College Mwiri who put off 84 for 9 in 20overs but lost by four wickets with Busoga High having put 35 for 6 in 7.4overs. The toss was won by Busoga High who opted to field while the batting for Mwiri saw Zephaniah Katungi hitting an unbeaten 39 and having figures of 2.48 with the ball.
The bowling for Busoga High saw James Ngobi putting on figures of 3 for 10 in such an entertaining encounter between the two sides from the East.
At Kyambogo Cricket Oval, Mukono Parents School the new force to reckon with in Ugandan schools’ cricket put on 154 for 20overs as they beat Nyakasura School by 58 runs. The batting for Mukono had Lawrence Sempijja putting 48 and Simon Ssesazi 4 for 16 with the ball.
Action at the Kings College Buddo pitch A saw Kololo SS beat Masaka SS. National team player Abdullah Lubega spurred the Kampala outfit to victory putting 21 not out with the bat and then Victor Kainerugaba returning figures of 4 for 3 with the ball.
The match between Ntare School and Ndejje SS was washed out.
Action returns Monday at the various ovals in Kampala.
