Defending champions Eastern region got their 2013 FUFA-MTN inter region competition campaign off to a good start with a hard-fought 2-0 success over Western region in their encounter at the Booma grounds in Hoima on Tuesday noon our reporter Emmanuel Ndugga writes.
The Easterners were inspired by two first half goals from Ahab Waiswa 10) and Daniel Sabena (22) in what was termed as a thriller game.
Abbey Kikomeko, the Eastern coach, said that they are more than hungry to play even better football than they did last year in Arua District.
While Emma Kato’s 74th minute goal helped Buganda overcame a resilient North East in their pursuit of victory in the opening match.
By press time the other match scheduled to take place tomorrow include Kitara against West Nile was yet to start, while two time champions Kampala beat Mid North 1-0 courtesy of a Richard Kibuuka 23rd minute goal.
The tournament, which started in 2009, is fully sponsored by MTN Uganda Limited, who are also using the event to help the technical people at the FA to tap talent from around the different regions.
Players who feature for teams in the top Tier Premier League and the second level Big League are not allowed to showcase their talent in this event.
In the inaugural competition in 2009 Buganda won the trophy, while Kampala lifted the Cup in 2010 and 2011.
