Coach Edward Goloola’s Buganda team has this afternoon qualified for the knock out stage at the on-going 2013 FUFA-MTN inter region competition at the Boma ground in Hoima.
Buganda booked a semifinal place after a 1-0 win over Western. Skipper Ayatu Ssempijja nodded in the winning goal to give Buganda their second win in Group B before they face defending champions Eastern tomorrow.
“We are happy to win our second game and qualify for semifinals,” said Goloola, who is also assistant coach of premier league side Vipers GC.
The Western team, who lost 2-0 to Eastern in the opening match on Tuesday, are virtually out of the competition. In the other game played this morning, West Nile and Mid North settled for a 1-1 draw.
Two more games between Eastern against North East, and Kampala taking on Kitaka, will be played later in the day.
The tournament, sponsored by MTN Uganda Limited, will climax on Saturday with the top sides bagging medals and cash prizes.
“We have started well and the games are very competitive this year. We thank MTN Uganda Limited for the continued support of football development in this country,” said the tournament’s organizing committee chairman Patrick Ogwel, also Vice President of the FA in-charge of Youth.
