Express FC have been eliminated from the on-going Cecafa Kagame Club Championships in Darfur, Sudan.
Three time champions of the regional tournament APR of Rwanda this afternoon beat Sam Ssimbwa’s Express FC 2-0 in the first quarter final tie at the Naga Stadium.
Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza headed well a Nova Bayama’s cross to give goalkeeper Franco Oringa for the opening goal in the 70th minute, before Bayama made it 2-0 with four minutes to full time.
The Express FC coach Ssimbwa admitted that his team played poorly and APR was the better side. He said that after a spirited first half, Express FC relaxed.
APR’s German Coach Andreas Spier said he was happy with the effort showed by his boys. Spier said the team was now looking forward to the semi finals.
While, APR wait for to play the winner between El Ahly Shandy and Al Merreikh later match today), Express will board a quick flight out of Darfur tomorrow morning to Khartoum where they will then connect back to Uganda.
Tomorrow Uganda’s second team URA who qualified from group C in South Kordofan will face another Rwanda side Rayon Sport in what promises to be a thriller. Burundi’s Vital’O will also battle Ports of Djibouti in the other quarter final tie. The tournament will climax with the finals on July 1.
