Amos Oboke, the senior administrator Tororo Hospital has faulted the company for putting the lives of patients and their attendants at risk because of the open trenches.

A patient has died at Tororo government hospital after falling in an open trench in the compound.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Amelia Leo, a resident of Buteba Sub County in Busia district. Amelia has been undergoing treatment for advanced cancer at Tororo government hospital for the past three days before he met his death. Owor Mateka, an uncle to the deceased explains that Leo left the ward to look for supper at the hospital restaurant.

He however, says that the deceased lost his way back and slipped into an open trench in the hospital compound when he was found dead. The trenches were dug up by Majaz Construction Company, which was contracted to undertake the partial repair of sewerage lines at the hospital. Dr. Thomas Ochar, the Medical superintendent Tororo hospital of the Hospital said the deceased had developed a mental disorder due to the advanced cancer and it’s the reason he lost his way to the ward and ended up in the trench.

Amos Oboke, the senior administrator Tororo Hospital has faulted the company for putting the lives of patients and their attendants at risk because of the open trenches. Oboke says Majaz was awarded a three month contract to repair the sewer lines at the hospital last year at a cost of about 45 million shillings, but he is very disappointed that not even half of the work is done. But Majanga Tereza, the director of Majaz Construction Company the contractor blamed all her woes on delayed release of funds by the District.

Tereza offered a truck to transport the body of the deceased to his home village in Buteba Sub County. Philip Okecho, an attendant to a patient at the hospital has warned of more danger unless the open trenches are covered.
