Uganda’s Joseph Kabagambe was carried shoulder high after he helped his El Merreikh El Fasher side to the semi finals of the Cecafa Kagame Club Championships in Darfur, Sudan.
The former Kira Young FC midfielder caused the Al Ahly Shandy defenders lots of trouble as his team eventually won 3-2 in penalties.
The player signed three weeks ago for the Darfur based team from Kira Young. He had played for another Sudanese side Al Neer 2009-2011.
In the second quarter final tie on Wednesday evening, over 10,000 fans celebrated Al Merreikh Al Fasher’s win.
Al Merreikh conceded a 62nd minute goal, a corner headed in by Nadir El Tayeb, but doggedly attacked to score in the last action of the match, a super header by second half substitute Mubarak Ishaq. Although Kabagambe did not take any penalty kick, his side won 3-2.
The entire town was thrown into wild celebrations and dignitaries joined into a protracted carnival that took centre stage on a jam-packed pitch. But the home side will have to work a little harder when they face three times champions APR in the first semi final on Friday.
