The stadium board Chairman Godfrey Mabirizi told the media on Monday evening that they had have made payment of UGX50 million also signed a memorandum of understanding to pay the balance in a period of two years.

Mabirizi said after several talks the tax authority decided the stadium must pay a debt of close to UGX800 million will be remitting some money every month for two years.

The development means that Nakivuubo stadium will be able to host football matches and other functions that can generate income. The stadium will even host a FUFA League match on Tuesday between Uganda Cup holders URA FC and Kira FC.

After closure of the stadium, all matches in the FUFA Super League that were scheduled to take place at the Stadium had been moved to other stadiums.

Last month the tax body had indicated that the stadium had been closed because of failure to remit VAT for several years. URA said the debt dates back to October 2010, although management of the stadium said it was it dated back to 2000.

State Minister for Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi later said that it was good the Stadium had been opened because there was no way it could make money when it’s closed.
