Uganda Cranes’ first choice goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been included in the team that will face Libya in an International friendly in Tripoli on Saturday.
Head Coach Sredojevic ‘Micho’ Milutin told the media after the training this afternoon at Namboole Stadium that although Onyango is suspended for the June 8 World Cup qualifier against Liberia, his presence in Libya will be important.
Micho indicated that Onyango’s presence will benefit the whole team and other goalkeepers. The Serbian born coach says this is a big game against a side that is highly ranked in the world. He said Onyango will get his ticket today and hopefully connect to Tripoli on Wednesday.
Micho said although some of the players will not be able to make the trip like skipper Andrew Mwesigwa, Tony Mawejje and the St. George trio of Robert Ssentongo, Isaac Isinde and goalkeeper Robert Odongkara; he expects his team to put up a good show.
Daniel Sserunkuma, the best player in the 2012/2013 Kenyan League, was also part of the team that trained today although he looked unfit during the drills.
The Cranes will face Liberia on June 8, before hosting Angola a week later at the same venue in matches they must win if they hope to improve their chances of making it to the next stage of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Asked about the Cranes’ chances of qualification, Micho said his focus is on the Liberia and Senegal games for now.
