The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) has today named the final squad that will take part in the 2014 Africa U-19 World Cup qualifiers that runs in Kampala May 25 to June 2.
Justine Ligyalingi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Cricket association (UCA) told Red PepperOnline, that the selection committee had picked the team to be captained by Derrick Bakunzi.
Uganda will seek to make its third appearance at the Under 19 World Cup after competing in the 2004 and 2006 versions held in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka respectively. The games will be played at Kyambogo, Lugogo and Entebbe Cricket Ovals.
Eight teams namely Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia and Namibia will compete for the one available slot for qualification for the ICC Under 19 World Cup slated for United Arab Emirates next year.
Head Coach Davis Turinawe said that although they will face top sides in the tournament, they have trained hard and the boys are rearing to go.
All the teams will reside at Hotel Africana for the duration of the tournament, with Nigeria arriving first on May 21. Some of the players in the team include; Abdalah Lubega, Simon Ssesazi, Faruk Ochimi (Vice Capt), Abdalah Sezooba and Lawrence Ssempijja among others.
