Opposition party Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) leader Olara Otunnu is expected to appear in court for plea on two charges of allegedly defaming President Museveni and ignoring police summons over the matter.

Magistrate Araali Muhiirwa of Buganda Road Court on Tuesday extended the summons to June 11th after the state requested for more time to implement the previous court order.

Otunnu’s troubles date back to a  January 16 press conference he addressed in which he allegedly questioned the deaths of what he called President Museveni’s allies since the Front for National Salvation’s (Fronasa) struggles to date, saying they should be investigated.

The presidential adviser on Media, Mr John Nagenda, dismissed Mr Otunnu’s remarks as unfortunate, and not deserving a reply.
