Mulago hospital will soon launch an electronic system for registering patients, births and deaths that occur at the hospital. The development comes at a time when there is an increase in the number of missing babies at the country’s biggest hospital.
Ms Goretti Kajumba, 33, in December last year lost her baby from the hospital, four days after giving birth. However the hospital said that the baby had been born in “distress” and died soon after birth, the mother insists that her baby was in good health.
Mr Enoch Kasasira, the hospital spokesperson, on friday 22nd march said “the electronic registration has already started in the casualty ward, and is being rolled out in the obstetrics and gynecology ward” he further said:“We hope this will reduce the confusion of babies getting lost and help relatives in identifying the wards where patients are admitted.
The hospital is currently training workers who will operate the registration system.
