You Will Get To Understand Me At Some Point—Muntu

FDC President Mugisha Muntu who last night lost party presidential flag bearer contest to Rt. Dr. Col. Kizza Besigye conceded defeat, promised to rally behind the latter but said Ugandans will at one time understand his principles.

Kizza Besigye scored 718 votes while Gen Mugisha Muntu trailed him with only 289 votes bringing the question of party flag bearer to an end.

Muntu who was speaking last night at Mandela National stadium, Namboole after losing the contest promised to swing party infrastructure behind Besigye.

“This is not a loss for me. I’m a long distance runner. For every dark cloud there is a silver lining. I congratulate Besigye for winning. I respect the choice for the delegates. This country will get to understand me at some point,” Muntu said.

Adding; “. I believe in the God of Jacob and Abraham. The Lord I believe in tells me fear not for I’m with you. I tell you that I have lost but FDC has won. I am a democrat and I don’t fight for positions, I fight for principles and causes. I’m going to swing the Party infrastructure behind him (referring to Besigye). We will succeed.”

In his acceptance speech, Besigye applauded Muntu for conceding defeat and party delegates’ for trusting him with their vote.

He said that the struggles against NRM has just started but also warned of the challenges. He expressed optimism in overcoming the aforementioned challenges.
