Leading digital money transfer service WorldRemit is proud to be sponsoring the 5th Annual National Youth Skills Development Expo, supporting the professional development of the next generation of Ugandans.

The company is working in partnership with the Youth Advocacy Foundation Uganda (YAFU) and the Uganda Youth Network (UYONET).

The WorldRemit team will also be attending this year’s Youth Expo on 6th October at the Uganda Museum, Plot 5, Kiira Road in Kampala. Budding entrepreneurs will be given access to training and mentorship, so they can develop key professional skills.

To kick off its youth partnership, on 21 April WorldRemit will hold workshops and seminars at ISBAT University.

This unique platform will let young people network and learn – whether they’re starting out, or looking for advice on how to grow their business. They will have the opportunity to connect with mentors from the private sector, civil society, government and international development agencies.

With hundreds of thousands of Ugandans in the UK, and millions in the global diaspora, remittances play a significant role in the country’s economy. According to the World Bank, Uganda received over $1 billion in inbound remittances in 2015.

With WorldRemit, people in more than 50 countries can send fast, secure transfers to more than 140 destinations.

A pioneer in mobile to mobile money transfers, WorldRemit makes sending money as easy as sending an instant message.

Over 70% of international remittances sent to mobile money accounts in December 2016 were sent via WorldRemit, according to the latest data published by the GSMA.

Martin Best, Head of Brand Marketing at WorldRemit, said: “Ugandans in the diaspora make over 40,000 transactions every month, sending remittances to support their friends and family back home.

“Each one of these transactions has its own human story. It’s a promise made, and a promise redeemed. We are here to make sure these promises are kept by offering a safer, faster and lower cost money transfer service while also helping talented Ugandans gain critical access to professional skills, training and mentorship in their early professional steps.”

Akampa Rugaba ‘’Tanbull’’, Executive Coordinator, 5th Annual National Youth Skills Development Expo 2017, comments: “We are proud to have this partnership with WorldRemit, especially at a time where many young people have started businesses or have business ideas that they are looking at turning into reality,  as well as the desire to make a difference in building a better Uganda.

“The skills development expo open space will create employment opportunities, as well as a place where young people will network, learn, share skills, pitch projects and exhibit their work.”

“We believe that when youth succeeds, Uganda succeeds, and so the partnership will bring on board financial literacy sessions and financial management skills as well.”

“We appreciate WorldRemit’s support, and look forward to a continued partnership.
