UPC BOSS HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN WEARING A SUIT IN LIFE, RED PEPPER Launches Overhaul Otunnu Drive

The mighty Red Pepper has launched a fundraising campaign to give Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) boss, Ambassador Olara Otunnu a wardrobe makeover.

Dubbed overhaul Otunnu, the drive follows an outcry from our passionate leaders who are concerned about the astute politician’s sense of style.

We’re tired of seeing that man donning bitenge (contemporary African garb) in an era where so many men are increasingly becoming aware of fashion. “You may actually think the Kitenge is Otunnu’s second skin. Please help us advise him to take a shift in dressing.

Maybe that way he will even get fresher ideas to steer UPC from the old fashioned ideology of the 1960s which has confined it to political oblivion,” a concerned reader wrote to Red Pepper.

Widely famed as a garb for the older members of society, the Kitenge is a revered piece of attire in Africa.

But like they say, too much of anything is bad; and it is in this spirit that the overhaul Otunnu campaign proponents want to see him don more stylish suits.

“The guy has always nursed presidential ambitions but world over it is almost impossible to mention one president who has suit-phobia akin to that held by the man from Mucwini.

If he still harbours state house ambitions then he should take on the latest trends and stop appearing like a village catechist!” a reader wrote.

In a bid not to disappoint our dear readers, here at red pepper we have decided to launch the overhaul Otunnu campaign by the end of which we hope to secure the UPC president a couple of suits that match the current trends and which we hope— will make him les mistaken by the bevy of sexy chics that have always longed to hook him up and assume the title of first lady in case he becomes president! As you read this, a social media campaign with the hashtag #ClothOtunnu is trending on microblogging site, twitter and all concerned Ugandans are urged contribute so that the man who is known to have ‘never tasted a bean’ is given a wardrobe makeover. Below is Otunnu’s trade mark Kitenge that we want to complement with a few suits. NB: If you want to be part of this drive, send your contributions/comments to 0774552385

  1. Interesting……..but largely a joke. Olusegun Obasanjo former president of Nigeria has never worn a suit in life but was a very effective president. Mr. Olara Otunu is an African who is comfortable in an African attire and proud of his roots. We should be commending Mr. Otunu for promoting African fashion. The late Nyerere of Tanzania and Kaunda of Zambia also promoted unique dress codes which to them was typical of the continent.

  2. All his life !!! That is not correct. I first saw Otunu in Nairobi when he was there with Okello Lutwa, Wilson Toko for the “peace talk ” or “peechi tok” as some say. Otunu was wearing a black suit.
