For Goerge Nsimbe and Kampala City Council FC, the 2013/14 season has brought much encouragement. Claiming the FUFA super league title in style – beating arch rivals SC Villa 3-1 on final match – looks to have set them rhythm to complete its first ever league and cup double.
The champions host holders Victoria University in the first leg of the knock-out competition at Lugogo this afternoon. The second leg will be just two days later on Sunday at Namboole.
The two have only settled for a draw in their last four encounters. SCVU were edged by KCC by a point to their maiden league triumph on Tuesday.
“We need the double. Go for it,” KCC coach Nsimbe told his charges on Thursday. “The team is ready for test without considering the status of KCC as league champions,” his opposite Morley Byekwaso fired back.
The defending champions will miss the services of Dan Nsubuga, Simon Okwi and Noah Ssemakula will have to undergo late fitness tests while KCC will not have club topscorer Tony Odur and Brian Majwega.
Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) plays FUFA Big league side, Jinja Municipal in the other semifinal at the Mehta stadium in Lugazi.
