Police in Luweero is searching for unidentified thugs who killed a security guard in an attack on Edema & Brothers Hardware Shop, the main hardware outlet in the district.
The Thugs also stole construction materials and hard cash from the store.
The deceased is identified as Swaleh Dagida (56), a resident of Kiberenge in Luweero Sub County.
The night watchman was guarding with only a spear, bows and arrows putting him at a disadvantage because the attackers were armed, Topher Gimei, the Luweero Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Officer says.
They tied both his hands and legs to counter his might in resistance. His body was later recovered in the compound with signs that he was strangled.
One of the neighbors, Godfrey Tojang explains that the crime was committed in utter silence because they were not able to detect anything until the discovery of the night guard’s body.
A subsequent medical report indicates that the victim was strangled to death.
Gimei says that the force has recovered a mobile phone up the roof which they suspect belongs to one of the thugs.
He however rebukes owners of such a big business for failing to invest in security.
