RwandaWhile-as Anthony Ndawula failed to guide the Uganda Volleyball Cranes to the continental qualifier, neighbours  Rwanda yesterday went one more step towards the glory after the hammered Nigeria 3-1 (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-17) in the fourth day of African qualifying tournament Pool T for the 2014 Men’s World championship held at Palais des Sports in Yaoundé, Cameroon on Sunday.

Rwanda finished their matches with a win- loss ratio of 3-1 to lead the 5 nation tournament with 9 points, while Nigeria dropped to 1-2 with 3 points.

Christophe Mukunzi led the Rwandan scorers with 14 points, while Seyefa Dikiyya topped Nigeria’s scorers with 18.

In the other match of the day Algeria took over Gabon 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-10). Algeria improved their record to 2-1 with one remaining encounter against Nigeria in the fifth and last day of the tournament. Gabon dropped to 0-3.

Algerian opposite spiker Toufik Mahdjoubi played the greatest role in the victory and came as his team best scorer with 14 points.

The fifth and last day of the tournament features Algeria playing Nigeria and Cameroon to meet Gabon in two deciders to determine the winner of the tournament.

The winner of the five nation round robin tournament will secure a ticket at World Championship to be held in Poland in August 30 to September 21.
