Police Teargas Canister Injures Red Pepper Scribe

Uganda Police teargas canister has today morning injured Red Pepper’s senior political reporter Nicholas Mwesigwa while covering the FDC presidential nominations at Najjanankumbi, along Entebbe road.

“I sustained a back injury. Some pieces of canister are stuck in my back,” Nicholas said adding that; “They fired teargas and bullets to a few of Besigye supporters who were heading to Najjanakumbi. Just a few meters to the headquarters, they intercepted them and a police officer identified as Asiimwe Fred fired bullets and teargas and the canister fragment shattered my back.”

Police also shot a Besigye supporter with a rubber bullet and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The shot Besigye supporter has been identified as Godfrey Bbale.
