A Police officer was on Saturday afternoon killed by a mob in Nyamweru Sub County, Kabale District while in the process of executing an arrest warrant issued by Kabale Chief Magistrate’s court.
He is identified as PC Walimbwa fred (49) attached to Nyamweru police post.
Walimbwa lost his life after family members and residents attempted to block him from arresting one Paulson Niwagaba who was wanted by the court for failing to provide necessities to his offspring.
The deceased is said to have booked out for duty together with PC Mulindangabo Augustine with whom they had successfully arrested Niwagaba. However when information of his arrest went around, his relatives waylaid the policemen preventing them from taking him to the police station.
It’s alleged that the ensuing confusion resulted into a scuffle prompting the officer to fire live bullets injuring one Ivan Ayebare (18) an incident that evoked anger from the villagers. They pounced on him, with pangas and stones to brutally end his life.
The shot resident Ivan Ayebare also died moments later from Kabale referral hospital.
Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate confirms the incident and says investigations into the matter are underway to ensure that the culprits are arrested.
Maate describes the incident as unfortunate urging that locals should always follow up their matters with police and other relevant authorities instead of sabotaging legal processes
