A Police constable who was assaulted by students in Kisoro a week ago has died.

Thirty-five year old Kefa Twinomujuni, who was attached to Kisoro police station, died at Mutolere hospital Kisoro on Friday afternoon, exactly seven days after he was assaulted.

On February 21 at around 10PM, students of Vision High School in Kisoro Town Council turned rowdy prompting the intervention of the Police. The situation is said to have gotten out of hand when female students tried to lynch a male colleague who had been spotted near their dormitory.

The officer was assaulted by the students in the process of rescuing the male student as the female colleagues attempted to lynch him.

The office was left unconscious after being hit with stones and was rushed to Kisoro hospital from where he was referred to Mutolere hospital.

The deceased was a resident of Nyakalende village, Kagunga parish Bukimbire Sub County in Kisoro district.

Kigezi regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate refers to the death as unfortunate and also cautioned students against using violence to solve problems.

Maate says that the irresponsible behavior of students has on several times resulted into great losses adding that investigations into the matter have been initiated.
