Kibaale police are holding Mugabi Ngabirano, a local pastor in Bujaja village in Mpasaana Sub County over allegations of raping and strangling a 56-year-old.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 10pm during a heavy down pour.
The rape victim, whose identity has been withheld, is currently at admitted at Mpasaana clinic, where she was rushed in critical condition.
While on her sick bed on Thursday afternoon she narrated that Pastor Ngabirano went to her compound under the cover of seeking shelter from the rain.
The rape victim felt sympathy for Ngabirano and allowed him inside her hut. She further said that minutes after Ngabirano turned wild and started demanding for sex, the old woman raised an alarm but this didn’t scare away the suspect who pinned her on the ground and started raping her.
It took the intervention of some of residents who heard the rape victim crying for help to stop Ngabirano.
Valentino Byaramuhisakyi, an eye witness said that they caught the suspect red handed on top of his victim.
Led by Albert Kahwezi, the Bujaja village LC I chairperson they apprehended the suspect and handed him over to police.
The rape victim who was unconscious was immediately rushed to the nearby clinic for medical attention.
She sustained bruises on her neck and head.
Kahwezi wondered why a man of God would commit such a heinous crime on the people he should be ministering too.
Residents have warned police against mishandling the case saying they will lynch the suspect should he be released under unclear circumstances.
