A 25-year-old woman has been allegedly gang raped and brutally murdered by unknown assailants in Mubende district.
Police identified the deceased as Nabukenya Winnie, a casual laborer in the Kaweeri Coffee plantation, located in Madudu Sub county Mubende district.
Dan Ampadde, the officer in charge of the police operations in Mubende district, says the police acted after a tip off by the residents, who had seen the body of the deceased lying along the road at Kirawula village near the plantation.
A common sight around the village, Ampadde says her absence prompted concerned neighbours to go to her home to look for her in the afternoon. However, her body was found by the road leading to her house.
The deceased had been undressed, and had several deep cut wounds on different parts of the body.
Police sealed off the crime scene and used a sniffer dog to look for clues. The dog led police to a room occupied by a group of men who police did not arrest, however.
Ampadde says they have established that some of the men living in that room are casual laborers in Kaweeri coffee while others are are not employed.
Though the local leaders disclosed their identities, Ampadde declined to reveal them saying it would hinder their investigations.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Mubende regional referral hospital for post mortem, as the police also looks for the relatives.
Ampadde says according to the way the body appeared, the suspects must have gang raped the deceased before killing her.
