Police in Moroto District over the weekend arrested two people and recovered stolen Moroto Cathedral property worth millions of shillings hidden at the foot of Mt. Moroto.
Security operatives carried out two separate arrests in a suspected hideout for thugs in Moroto suburbs after a tip off by concerned residents.
They were able to recover property including a guitar, an amplifier, a desktop computer, microphones, speakers and several assorted electrical equipment.
Police identifies the suspects as Joshua Lokalany and Issa Lokiru. Lokalany is a resident of Katanga village, Naitakwae Parish in Nadunget Sub County. Issa Lokiru hails from Camp Swahili village, South Division in Moroto Municipality.
John Omwony, the officer In charge crime at Moroto Central Police Commander, said that the suspects have a link in the burglary that took place on the cathedral last Thursday night.
He further said that now operations will be intensified in areas of the municipality where similar cases of theft have been reported.
He has however advised locals to take the initiative of marking their households’ property to make it easy for identification in case of recovery. He warns the residents against buying stolen property saying that police will not hesitate to arrest anyone found with stolen property and those that connive with wrong doers.
The suspects are being held at Moroto Central Police awaiting court appearance.
