Police in Luweero last evening fired live bullets to disperse very angry mob of residents who wanted to Lynch a suspected armed robber at Kasana Police Post.
The suspect, identified as Sam Kasule 33, a resident of Mabaale zone in Luweero was rescued by the force before being held at kasana police post. He was later transferred to Luweero Central Police Station.
It’s reported that Police trailed the suspect from Kampala as he drove a Toyota Mark II registration number UAF. 862Z believed to be stolen. He branched off the Gulu-Kampala highway into Kasana Health Center compound after noticing that he was being pursued by security personnel.
He hurriedly jumped out of the car with a gun and in the process of fleeing for his dear life, he entered into the latrine at the health facility.
Residents were attracted by the presence of security personnel around the health center and pounced on him after learning that he was wanted for robbery. Police later whisked him away from the angry residents who had started stoning him.
An angry Mob later descended to the police post demanding that the suspect be released to them for lynching. They claimed that the course of the law is no longer trusted. During the scuffle, police opened fire to save the situation.
Police then used the same vehicle he’s said to have robbed to rush him to the Central Police Station.
Godfrey Ninsiima, the Luweero District Police Commander, says Kasule is one of the most wanted thugs. He says the suspect was involved in both highway robberies and breaking into residents homes at night.
