A branch of the Uganda Police, the Flying Squad, recently deployed in Rwizi region has rounded up over 50 suspected criminals.

The suspects, mostly youth, were rounded up in areas of Ruharo, Rwebikona, Kisenyi and Byafura all in Mbarara municipality.

The Mbarara district criminal investigations officer says many of the youth were found consuming opium and alcohol during the day.

Abbey Ogoku, the O.C station Mbarara central police, told URN that the youth would be screened on Friday morning to get the hardcore criminals and have them prosecuted in court.

The Rwizi police spokesperson Poly Namaye says some of those arrested have been behind the wave of murders, robbery and break-ins in and around Mbarara municipality.

Namaye says the exercise to hunt for criminals will roll throughout the five districts of the region. He say the flying squad has since the beginning of the month managed to round up over 300 suspected criminals.

Namaye revealed that the special force has also managed to apprehend three of the most wanted men who have been breaking into people’s shops and bars using master keys.

She named the suspects as Sepiriano Byaruhanga (38), James Sendawula (37) and Prosper Kamwesigye all of Kizinda in Ishaka Bushenyi municipality.
