30 royal guards of Rwenzururu Kingdom have been charged at Jinja Magistrates court and remanded to Nalufenya prison till December 26, 2016.

They are accused of involving themselves in the Kasese clashes that left over 100 people dead including police officers.

12 of the suspects have been charged with aggravated robbery and murder while the other 18 have been charged with 7 counts, among them murder after attacks in Kabonero, Kabarole district in September. Some police officers were also killed in this attack.

However, most of these suspects who have been in prison since November 27 are rotting in police cells with wounds all over their body.

“Some of my clients have wounds on them but have not been accorded treatment while in cells,” Defense lawyer, Evans Ochieng told court.

Meanwhile, the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere who was allegedly their commander was yesterday charged with 12 charges including murder and terrorism and remanded to Luzira till December 28.
